Home Time...

We thought that for the final posting that we would get a few of the girls to sum up their tour. Here they are.

"It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. Sharing it with great people, creating new friendships and learning a lot about myself." Ellie Dixon - U6

"Blood, sweat and tears. The tour was amazing. The last game was really emotional. We all had loads of fun and thanks to all the teachers for taking us." Rachel Hall - Yr10

"It was an amazing experience to share with people close to me. As a team, I feel, we have made a strong bond. It will be a trip never to forget. Next year the leaving members will be missed." Kerry Boyle - Yr11

"The tour was very good, especially shopping on 5th Avenue. The games were good even if we didn't win them all." Rachael Dent - Yr9

"The tour to New York has been truly unforgettable. We have memories that will last a lifetime. Although we lose some of the team next next the friendships we have made will last forever." Olivia Oldroyd L6

Signing off for the last time. Hope you have enjoyed the blog.

Hairy moment...

As we pulled up to the airport all the girls got off and I (Miss Wardlaw) thought I best check the bus for left belongings, rubbish etc... The bus driver didn't realise I was on there and locked me on! The worst bit she couldn't open the door. Thankfully the driver told me how to operate the door release and I was saved!

We all arrived into Heathrow safely, with not much sleep and currently on the M1 homeward bound.

Six Flags Theme Park

I think the person who was looking forward to this the most was Mr Scholfield. It was a glorious day weather wise and we set off early on the 2 hour drive.

There were lots of rides to go on and the girls made the most of it. The biggest ride was the highest rollercoaster in the world... Kingda Ka. It was massive and fast... and just a bit scarey.

Miss Nuttall and Miss Peach opted out, due to tour regulations (wimps), of the big rides however they did get on well with the log flumes, I think they had 4 goes at it.

End of Tour Dinner and Presentation

Apologies for no piccies!

This was the only night we could fit in the end of tour dinner. We had a lovely room on the upper floor of the hotel where we had a set 3 course meal, which was lovely.

Every girl was awarded a prize on the tour for their ''funnyisms'' here are some of them.

Kerry Boyle - Barnes Wallace Award for the best bowling action (resembled a bouncing bomb)
Charlotte Kershaw - Accidental Tourist Award - Forgot her hockey stick and her money on occasions.
Emma Steer - Team Analyst Award for her comments on team selection!
Iona Black - Snail Award for always been last in queues.
Sam Brook - International Relations Award for talking to a chap on the ferry.
Sally Hall - Parental Communication Award for and I quote "Mum just doesn't listen. You are going to have to ring her Rachael"

I think the girl who was the happiest with her funnyism award was Poppy Nicholson. Most Made Up Award. She turned up at 2am on departure looking flawless and has done ever since!

On a serious note we did award some other awards, these are as follows.

1st XI

Most Improved - Olivia Oldroyd
Player of the Tour - Hayley Barrett

2nd XI

Most Improved - Rachel Hall
Player of the Tour - Emma Nabridnyj

We have the Best Tourist Award too, which is given to the girl who, with her all round attitude and behaviour both on and off the field, has been exemplary. This award went to Chloe Sunderland.

The girls also made a presentation to Ellie Dixon for being a great captain, where she received a signed "I Love New York" T-shirt.

We also announced the captain of the 1st XI hockey next year and that is Harriet Willings with 2 vice captains Olivia Oldroyd and Sam Brook.

Well done to all the girls on this tour. They have been great company, a pleasure to tour with.

Statue of Liberty

It was a cold ferry journey over to the Statue of Liberty. We then got off at Ellis Island where we visited  the museum of Immigration. This is where all the immigrants were held and checked before entering America. Thankfully all the girls were allowed back on the boat to Manhattan Island!

Another Abercrombie visit...

After a quick tour of China town and little Italy and a visit to Ground Zero the girls decided to spend up in A and F. Think our tour is sponsored by them now! We then nearly missed the ferry to the Statue of Liberty because of all the spending... but with some running we made it!

Big Thank You....

We have an entourage of fans following us around New York... They have been at every game and supported from the sidelines... they have gone from getting sunburnt, to freezing cold but its not stopped them! So, on behalf of the girls and teachers... Thank You!

Hockey vs Strong Island

After shopping we headed over to Sachem East High to play some hockey. The 2nd XI played first and lost. The score was 2-1 with the goal coming from Alex Jackson. The score didn't reflect their work ethic though, especially in the 2nd half where they played some of there best hockey.

The 1st XI then played their game. The opposition were of a higher standard than Huntington, however our girls didn't seem phased at all. It was an excellent game to watch (although very cold) but they fought well and played some of the best hockey we had seen from them. We lost 2-1 with the goal coming from Hayley Barrett.

It all got a bit emotional at the end of the game as its some of the girls last hockey game representing Silcoates, but what an excellent way to finish. They should be all really proud of themselves and we are proud of them too.

Tired boys...

Just shows how a bit of shopping tires boys out! Mr Nicholson and Mr Scholfield showing they just can't take the pace!

Shopping, shopping and more shopping!

We took a drive to New Jersey for this shopping trip to the mall. It was quite big with ample stores to keep the girls, the teachers and the parents entertained.

Hard Rock Cafe - New York

After Billy Elliot we had booked a meal at Hard Rock Cafe. It was Chloe Sunderlands birthday so some of the girls organised balloons and banners as well as a cake from the hard rock cafe.

Unbeknown to all the girls Chloe Robinson was heading out to New York for her birthday. We had organised for her to meet up with us for the meal. The girls were really surprised as was Chloe Robinson. They all seemed to have a great meal and a great time.

Mr Scholfield did end up putting his foot in it though at the end of the night. Chloe Robinsons trip is a complete surprise, including everything she is going to be doing here. He kindly asked if she had been on her helicopter ride?! To which Chloe and her mums face was a picture! A big faux pas there Mr S!

Billy Elliot on Broadway

We headed into the city where some the girls went to the guggenheim art museum. The rest had some more shopping time.

Thanks to the Nicholsons we got to Billy E on time. We thought the start was 2.30pm it was in fact 2pm... so a quick phonecall from Katie provoked a mad rush down to Times Square where we all meeting.

The show itself was fantastic all the girls seemed to enjoy it... I even caught Rachael Dent singing one of the songs in the corridor this morning!

Caption photo...

Alex Jackson took this photo in central park.... She insists it is one of her favourites of the teachers... She wanted it to go on the blog.. Any good captions???

Tuesday Game vs Huntington School

We arrived at Huntington around 4pm and it was very cold! The 2nd XI girls played first. It was a very even game, there was plenty of battling going on around the field we finished off with a fitting win! 1-0 Emma Steer was the goal scorer!

The 1st XI then played their game. Again it was a tightly fought game, however the Silcoates girls had the upper hand all the way through the game and played some excellent hockey. The girls won 3-0 with Hayley Barrett scoring 2 of the goals and Olivia Oldroyd scoring one.

A great win for both teams will inject confidence going into the final games on Thursday.

Well Done Girls!!

Bowling

We went bowling before the game on Tuesday. All the girls put a dollar on for the person with the highest scores. Sally Hall and Hayley Barratt won with 139 and 136.

The adults put $2 in each and Mr Barratt flew ahead and even bagged a turkey on the way... with a score of 163 (I think).

Just to let you all know Miss Wardlaw did beat Mr Scholfield too!! He wasn't very happy!

Yankees

We took the subway to 161st Street to the Yankee stadium. We did have trouble with Alex Jacksons ticket swiping skills so Graham Barratt kindly offered to jump the barrier in order to avoid buying another ticket.

We all enjoyed the game, as well as the entertaining crowd. The Yankees won 4-3 against Minnesota Twins. We were all given a free hat too.

Empire State visit.

We have just been up the empire state building. It was very blustery and cold but got some excellent views. We have just left the girls to have some free time. We are pretty sure that they will have food then shop! A few of the girls got collared to smile in a tv show..

It's the Yankees game tonight... hotdogs and baseball at the ready!
